Where your mortgage goes after closing, and why it gets sold
Two different jobs
How it flows
The owner, sometimes called the investor or holder, has the right to be repaid. The servicer handles your account: collecting payments, managing escrow, answering questions and handling help if you fall behind. They are often different companies, and either role can be sold without the other.

Who to contact

Questions about loan sales
Is my servicer the same as my lender?
Not necessarily. The lender made the loan; the servicer manages it afterward and may be a different company.
